About the Stunning Glass Chapel In Eureka Springs

History of the Thorncrown Chapel

The Thorncrown Chapel is the realized dream of retired schoolteacher, Jim Reed, who originally purchased the land to build his retirement home. According to a history written by Reed’s son and Thorncrown Chapel pastor, the location was popular amongst people trying to capture a better glimpse of the Ozarks. Reed welcomed the visitors and decided to build the glass chapel in Eureka Springs to inspire them.
After working with architect E. Fay Jones, solving funding issues, and implementing an incredible construction plan, Reed and his team built the awe-inspiring Thorncrown Chapel. According to Reed’s son, it seemed that God was a part of the entire plan from the location of the chapel to covering building expenses. Although not a particularly religious man prior to construction, Jim Reed developed a deep relationship with God through the project.
